William “Bill” Lee Jones, 79, Gainesville, MO passed away on December 28, 2010 at the Baxter Regional Medical Center in Mountain Home, AR. He was born on January 2, 1931 in Kansas City, MO to Samuel and Geneva (Smith) Jones. He had two older brothers Robert and Fred, one younger brother Virgil and one younger sister Jane.
Bill was a veteran having served in the United States Air Force. He married Myrtle Strong on May 23, 1953 in Kansas City, MO where they lived and he was a barber for forty years. He and Myrtle had no children but had several nieces and nephews who were all very fond of his stories and jokes. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish and garden. He also loved to bowl, read and play cards, a skill he learned as a small child that brought him much enjoyment all his life. Bill was known for his gift of gab. Chances are if you talked to Bill Jones for very long you were going to hear some funny story from years past or a funny joke he had just learned.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents Samuel Chester Jones and Geneva Mae Smith Jones; his wife of fifty-seven years Myrtle June (Strong) Jones; and three brothers Virgil, Fred, and Roberts Jones. He is survived by one sister Jane Corley of Florida; three sisters-in-law Lee Jones of Canyon Lake, TX, Alice “Boogie” Jones of Montevideo, MN and Anna Anderson of Gainesville, MO; one brother-in-law Landon Strong also of Gainesville, MO; plus nieces and nephews located in Minnesota, Missouri, Texas and Arizona.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 31, 2010 in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home chapel, Gainesville, MO with Macel Jefferson officiating. Burial will be in the Faye Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday afternoon from 1 p.m. to service time at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Faye Cemetery and can be left at the funeral home.
