VERNON THOMAS HUFFINE

Vernon Thomas Huffine, 92, of Gainesville, MO passed to heaven on July 26, 2012 at the Gainesville Healthcare Center. He was born on November 28, 1919 in Long Beach, CA, the son of David and Rosa (Yost) Huffine.

Vernon graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Long Beach, CA, class of 1939. He joined the United States Army in 1941 and served as a Medic for the Army Air Corp during World War II. On January 28, 1944, he was united in marriage to Joan Mary Taylor in Laredo, TX and to this union, two children were born. Vernon worked for many years as a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service. After his retirement he owned his own carpet cleaning business for a few years before coming to the Ozarks some 20 years ago and making Gainesville, MO home. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, and most of all, life. He was a Christian and of the Baptist faith. Vernon, along with his wife, Joan, and two children, Jeffrey and Jan, were baptized together as a family over fifty years ago.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Mae Lankston and Marie White. Vernon is survived by his wife of over 68 years, Joan Huffine of Gainesville, MO; two children Jeffrey Taylor Huffine of Huntington Beach, CA and Jan Elizabeth Madden of Gainesville, MO; four grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

No local services are planned at this time. Cremation services are under the care and direction of Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Gainesville, MO.
