AGNES BEATRICE "RAYNE" WINSLOW
Agnes "Rayne" Winslow, 92, of Gainesville, MO passed away on October 20, 2014 at her residence. She was born on March 23, 1922 in Winde, MI, the daughter of Fred and Selma (LeDuc) Robbins.
Rayne went to work for Applied Dynamics, where she was a team member for computer board prototypes for the NASA program. As a result, she received a medal and a letter stating, "One of the greatest technical accomplishments of our age occurred on July 20, 1969 when Neil Armstrong stepped onto the surface of the moon. Applied Dynamics computers were widely used by our customers in various phases of the Apollo program and thus contributed to this accomplishment. Therefore, you, as an employee of Applied Dynamics, also played a role in this highly successful program. I am pleased to present you with the enclosed medal to commemorate this occasion." At an early age, Rayne became a professional singer and dancer. She was accomplished and a trophy winner for Fox Trot, Waltz and Tap. She was united in marriage to Raymond Winslow. The couple lived near Pinckney, MI where they owned and operated Marina & Mercury franchise at Portage Lake from 1953 to 1975. She retired to Missouri in 1976 to Norwood, MO for two years before moving to Gainesville. She was a member of the Moose Lodge, a Charter member and active volunteer of the Timber Knob Volunteer Fire Department and dispatched for the V.F.D. for over 20 years, member of Queen of All Saints Roman Catholic Church in Springfield, MO. Rayne was a lifelong charitable, missionary and church events worker. She enjoyed spending time and visiting with many of her longtime neighbors and friends.
Rayne was preceded in death by her parents Fred and Selma Robbins; her husband Raymond Winslow; one son Denny Winslow; four sisters; seven brothers; and two grandchildren David and Heather Piper.
She is survived by her children Henry T. "Butch" Winslow and wife Ruby of Gainesville, MO, Faye M. Rice of Rolla, MO; seven grandchildren Nancy Marie Winslow, Carrie Crawford and husband Randal, Anthony James Winslow, Eric Brown, Christine Quayle, Michelle Cooper and Susan Piper; five great grandsons and two great granddaughters.
A Rosary will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, October 24, 2014 in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home chapel, Gainesville, MO with a Firefighters service to follow. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 25, 2014 in the Clinkingbeard chapel. Burial will be in the Pontiac Cemetery with dinner following at the Timber Knob Volunteer Fire Department.
