ALENE RHODES

Alene Rhodes, the daughter of Albert "Bert" Coffey and Ollie (Mahan) Coffey was born May 18, 1921 at Locust, MO and passed away at Brooke Haven Health Care Center, West Plains, MO Tuesday, February 20, 2018, making her age 96 years 8 months and 20 days.

She was united in marriage to Vernie Rhodes November 3, 1940. To this union they were blessed with two boys, Gordon and Rockne Rhodes.
Alene worked for a number of years at the Lab in Mtn Home, AR. She also did some house cleaning for the Stith family. She raised a big garden and did a lot of canning. She also helped with the dairy farm. Most of her time was spent as a homemaker.

She enjoyed playing games with her friends, about once or twice a week. Four of them would gather in one of their homes and play all kinds of games. They had fun, but they played to win. She liked to tease and cut up; she enjoyed having a good time and being around people. She enjoyed her family and really enjoyed the grandkids and great grandkids.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Gainesville and enjoyed going to church when she could. She and Vernie were baptized in Gooley Spring Creek just below their home.
She loved to cook and make pies. Vernie said, "no one would bake a pie any better than Alene." She loved to have people over for meals and wanted them to eat hearty.

She was preceded in death by her husband Vernie, her parents Albert "Bert" and Ollie Coffey, four brothers Delmer, Basil, Carl and Don and one sister Clara Evans.

She is survived by her two children, Gordon Rhodes and wife Gloretta of Houston, MO, Rockne Rhodes and wife Paula of Gainesville, MO; five grandchildren Brian, Bruce, Melinda, Sara, Travis; eight great grandchildren; one brother Amos Coffey of Apache Junction, AZ; one sister Donna Farmer of Mtn Home, AR; and a host of other family members and friends.

She will be missed by all of us, but we rejoice to know that she is in Heaven with her Jesus.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 24, 2018 in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home chapel in Gainesville, MO with her son, Gordon Rhodes, and Dale Roberts officiating. Burial will be in the Pontiac Cemetery with committal services officiated by Amos Coffey. Visitation will be Friday evening, February 23rd from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Pontiac Cemetery.
