Arthur Archie Porter, 87 years, 16 days, was called home by his Heavenly Father on July 8, 2014 at Cox ER Medical Center South, Springfield, MO with his loving family by his side.

Arthur was born June 22, 1927 in Girdner, MO to Evert Lee and Amanda Melvina (Plumb) Porter.

Arthur was a resident of Seymour, MO for 37 years. He graduated from Ava High School in 1946 and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from SMSU (MSU) in 1963 in Springfield, MO. He was a retired Elementary school teacher and taught in rural one and two room schools in Douglas and Howell Counties for 20 years. He taught his last 22 years in Seymour RII and retired in 1989. He was a veteran and served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1950 & 51.

On November 11, 1951 Arthur and Gustava Moore were united in marriage by Rev. Sam Daniels in his home in Wasola, MO and to this union one daughter, Beth Ann was born in 1964.

Arthur was converted in 1956 through his faith in Jesus during a revival held by Rev. Tom Johnson at the Girdner Union Church and he lived his life according to the Word of his Heavenly Father. He enjoyed playing the guitar, singing gospel songs, listening to Roy Acuff and delighted in listening to the recordings of his students, whom he had taught to read music. He also enjoyed working in his shop as a small engine mechanic and sharpening saws. Arthur is now singing with his family and friends in Heaven, and awaits the arrival of his loved ones.

Arthur was preceded in death by his parents, Evert & Amanda Porter and his in-laws, Harvey & Dora Moore.


Arthur is survived by his loving wife, Gustava Moore Porter, Seymour, MO, one daughter, Beth Ann Porter and one grandson, Silas Henry Porter both of the home in Seymour, one sister, Sybil Porter Gheer and one brother, Freeman Porter both of Ava, MO, one niece and her husband, NolaJean (Jena) & Jerry Moyer, Ava, MO, and other relatives and friends.


Funeral services for Arthur will be Monday, July 14, 2014, 2:00 p.m.at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, MO with burial in the Dobbs Cemetery, east of Ava. Visitation will be Sunday from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Officiating will be Pastor Larry Vinson. Memorials may be made to Multiple Sclerosis or Muscular Dystrophy at the funeral home.
