Athel E. G. Jackson, 79 years, passed to heaven on August 19, 2011 at his home with his family by his side.

Athel was born August 16, 1932 in Mt. Judea, AR to Ashley and Gertie (Campbell) Jackson.

Athel lived in the Ava community since 1964 moving from the Kansas City area. On December 22, 1952 Athel and Lillie Friend were united in marriage in Harrison, AR and to this union one daughter, Linda was born. Athel was a Korean veteran and had served with the U.S. Army.

Athel worked as a Dairy and Beef Farmer for many years.
He also was a carpenter and had built many fireplaces.
He was a member and Elder of the Pine Ridge Church of Christ for many years.

He enjoyed bluegrass music, attending festivals and playing the mandolin and loved being a part of the Friday Night Jamboree. He also made many mandolins by hand.

Athel was preceded in death by his parents.


Athel is survived by his wife, Lillie R. Jackson, Ava, MO, one daughter & husband, Linda & Terry Howerton, Ava, MO, two grandchildren, Lydia and Montana Howerton, Ava, MO, two sisters and their husband, Shirley & Dale Beard, Ava, MO and Jackie Marie and Ellis Jones, Mtn. Home, AR, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.


Funeral services for Athel will be Monday, August 22, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, MO with burial in the Pine Ridge Cemetery with military honors by Ava American Legion #112 and VFW #5993. Visitation will be Monday from 1:00 p.m. to service time in the funeral home. Officiating will be Harlin Howerton and E.J. Hampton. Memorials may be made to Pine Ridge Cemetery fund or the donors choice of charity.
