BERT WESLEY BAXTER

Bert Wesley Baxter, 100, of Gainesville, Mo. passed to heaven on Sunday March 22, 2015 in Mountain Home, Ark. He was born Feb. 15, 1915 in Thayer, Mo. to Edgar and Nina (Stutsman) Baxter.

Bert went to school at Liner and then started doing area farm work. He was called into service on June 27, 1941. He served with distinction in the United States Army and was in World War II. After leaving the service he went to Kansas to do farm work where he met Louella Honstead. They were married January 1st, 1947 in Garden City, Kansas. The couple soon after moved to Howards Ridge, Mo where they raised two children Pattie and Lowell (Butch). He had several jobs including bus driver, tire repair, sold tractor parts for T.J. McCabe, and worked at True Value for Sam Powell in Mountain Home for several years until retirement. He loved to fish, hunt, cut wood, and spend time with his family and friends. He was also a volunteer fireman for Lick Creek Fire Dept.

He is survived by one daughter Pattie and Mike Britt of Howards Ridge; one son Lowell (Butch) Baxter of Gainesville. 7 grandchildren: Dean and Patricia Britt of Howards Ridge, Mo. Wes and Amy Britt of Howards Ridge, Mo. Rocky and Sherry Britt of Mountain Home, Ark. Joe and Heather Britt of Clarkridge, Ark. Stacey and Berry Skiver of Howards Ridge, Mo. Bert Eugene Baxter and Billie Jo Baxter both of Alabama; several great grand children and great-great grand children and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceeded in deatch by his wife, Louella; his parents Edgar and Nina Baxter; 2 brothers David and Herd Baxter; 3 sisters Ruby Ellison, Felma Smith, Maxine Rowlette; and 2 infant children.

Funeral services for Bert will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 24, 2015 in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home chapel, Gainesville, MO with Full Military Honors. Visitation will be Tuesday afternoon from 1 p.m. to service time at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Care Manor Nursing & Rehab in Mountain Home, AR. Arrangements are by Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Gainesville, MO.
