Billy "Bill" G. Swofford

Bill G. Swofford, 81 years, 5 months, and 12 days old, passed to Heaven on September 26, 2014 at Mercy Hospital, Springfield, MO with his family by his side.

Bill was born April 14, 1933 in Shell Knob, MO to Elbert and Blanche (Plummer) Swofford.

On December 15, 1951 Bill and Barbara Allen were united in marriage at Berryville, AR. and to this union five children were born.

Bill worked at GM in North Kansas City for two years then in 1953 he went to work for Pyle Construction for the next twelve years. He was the foreman of a ninety man crew and became part owner of the company. In November 1965 Bill and Barbara moved their family to the farm in the Black Oak community, where they were in the beef and dairy business for 42 years.

Bill became a Christian at an early age and was of the Baptist faith.

Bill enjoyed quail and deer hunting. When he was younger he enjoyed playing softball with his Murray TV team. Later in life he enjoyed golfing and working on projects at the golf course. Bill mostly loved working on the farm.

Bill was preceded by his parents, mother and father in-law, Amos & Rebecca Allen, brothers Randle, and Dorsel, sisters Lawanna Erwin, Mandy Minick, infant Helen and infant twins Denton & Dot.

Bill is survived by his wife, Barbara, of the home, five children and their spouses, Roger & Ann Swofford, Rhonda & David Williams, Kevin Swofford, Joe & Rita Swofford, and Judy & Kirk Dooms, 13 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, eight siblings, Lonnie & Charlotte Swofford, Rolla & Faye Swofford, Nola Mae Brock, Laura Faye & Harley Allen, Charlotte Linder,
Shirley & Don Leming, Joyce & David Wilson, and Mitzi & Tom Jeffery. In-Laws, Jim & Betty Allen, Bud & Eloyce Allen, Austin & Dorothy Garrison, Joyce Allen and Don & Ella Jean Allen, many nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.


Funeral services for Bill will be Tuesday, September 30, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, MO with burial in the Ava Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home. Officiating will be Pastor Jack Clemans. Memorials may be made to American Heart Association or American Diabetes Association.
