ORLAND "BUD" MAYFIELD

Orland "Bud" Mayfield, 101, of Thornfield, MO died May 5, 2020 at his home. Bud was born December 3, 1918 the son of Andrew and Margaret "Zady" (Hurtt) Mayfield.

Bud was born in near Mountain Grove, Missouri where he lived with his parents, brothers and sister. In 1936, Bud moved with his family to California to seek employment. It was here that he married Geneva Shaw. During this time Bud proudly served his country during World War II, including the Battle of the Bulge. Bud and Geneva raised their four children in San Jose, CA, where he lived and worked as a carpenter until retiring in 1974. At this time they bought a farm near Thornfield and moved back to enjoy their retirement years. He spent many years here hunting, fishing, hiking, and anything that he could do while outdoors. Bud loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and enjoyed when they would come to visit and he could take them to do all of his favorite things. After his second wife, Earlene's passing in 2015, his grandson, Tony and wife, Tami came to live with Bud and take care of him.

He was united in marriage to Geneva Shaw on January 22, 1941. She preceded him in death on April 9, 1985. He was united in marriage to Earlene Kuykendall on June 9, 1986. She preceded him in death on November 12, 2015. He was also preceded in death by his son, Troy and daughter-in-law Doris, his daughter, Lois and son-in-law Jack, his great-grandson, Tyler, his parents, brothers and sisters. Survivors include his son, Leroy (Sonda) of Oregon and his son Buddy (Gloria) of California, grandchildren, Tony (Tami) Mayfield, Greg (Christy) Hartman, Paula (Tom) Smith, Andy (Larissa) Mayfield, Mike (Sandy) Mayfield, Lori (Mike) Bellman, and Paul Mayfield, and 18 great-grandchildren, and 16 great-great grandchildren.

A come-and-go visitation will be held Friday, May 8, 2020 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home chapel, Gainesville, MO. A private burial with Full Military Honors will be in the Thornfield Cemetery. The family will host a Celebration of Life at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Thornfield Cemetery or to the giver's charity of choice. Arrangements are being conducted by Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Gainesville, MO.
