Cap Earnest Porter, 72 years, passed to Heaven on November 27, 2013 in his home surrounded by family and friends.

Cap was born August 1, 1941 in Squires, MO to Charley and Mary Elizabeth (Plumb) Porter.

Cap and Sue Lakey were united in marriage on January 8, 1966 at Girdner, MO. To this union five children were born. Cap was a Christian and having been saved at Girdner Church under the ministry of Rev. Tom Johnson in 1957.



Cap loved to hunt and fish. He loved telling a good story. Cap enjoyed horses, cars, and game roosters. He especially loved listening to music at Jackson Friday Night Jamboree and spending time with family and friends.

His early years were spent working with the Forestry Service, fighting western fires. Cap was an Army Veteran, serving during the Vietnam War. He was presented with the expert marksman award and expert mechanic award and was classed as Chief Mechanic while in the Army at Ft. Leonard Wood and Ft. Eustis, VA.. Later, Cap was employed by Hutchins Industries as a welder.

Cap was preceded by his parents, four brothers, Elmer, Newt, Pat and Lewis Porter, and three sisters, Effie Potter, Bessie Brown, and Wilma Brooks.

Cap is survived by his wife, Sue Porter, of the home, one son, Reese Porter and Robin, Eminence, MO, four daughters, Connie Linder and Fayne, Gayle McCullough and Alan, all of Ava, MO, Louis Zobel and Scott, Hollister, MO, and Peggy Hagaman, Eminence, MO, ten grandchildren, Alex, Levi, Sheldon, Maria, Roger, Porter, Lizzy, Amber, Rayni and Lola, one brother, Herbert Porter of Ava and a sister, Alice Welch of Ava.


Funeral services for Cap will be Monday, December 2, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the Clinkingbeard Chapel, Ava, MO. Burial in the Ava Cemetery with full Military Honors by Ava American Legion Post 112. Visitation will be from 1:00 until Service time in the funeral home. Officiating will be Rev. Charles McFarlin. Memorials may be made to Love Offerings to the Family.
