Carl Jackson (Jack) Johnson
Carl Jackson (Jack) Johnson, 83, passed away from Parkinson's on August 17, 2012, at Edgewater Retirement Community in West Des Moines, Iowa. Funeral services will be held on August 25, 2012, 11 a.m. at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home in Ava, Missouri, with burial in Ava Cemetery. Visitation will be held at 9 a.m.
Jack was born in Hammond, Missouri on June 6, 1929, to Fred and Mae (Wallace) Johnson. He grew up in Ozark County, Missouri and graduated from Gainesville High School. Jack married Norma Lee Piland on July 24, 1948. Norma preceded him in death in 2010 after 62 years of marriage.
Jack lived and worked in many communities in Missouri, Minnesota and Iowa. After graduating from high school he taught elementary school for a few years, and then he began his career in construction. He worked in farm tiling and natural gas pipeline construction. In his later years he enjoyed ranching and real estate development. Jack and Norma raised their two children in Iowa City, Iowa.
Jack is survived by his children Pam (Steve) Noll of Vancouver, Washington and Jim (Mary) Johnson of Des Moines, Iowa; grandchildren Michael, A.J. and Patrick Noll and Sydney and Grant Johnson; brothers, Harlan of Miller, Missouri, Gary of La Mesa, California, Ed of Maquoketa, Iowa; sisters Barbara Dunnegan of Maquoketa, Iowa, June Coffey of Augusta, Kansas, Marian O'Connell of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Carolyn Mork of Osage, Iowa and Lana Allen of Ely, Iowa; several nieces and nephews. His parents and brother Bill also preceded him in death.
