Carol Ann Lakey

Ava, Missouri

Carol Ann Lakey, 84 years, 6 months, and 17 days old, passed peacefully to her home in Heaven on June 25, 2024.

Carol was born December 8, 1939, in Souix Fall, Iowa to Herman Emmett and Elsie Emily (Robertson) Rider.  Carol was the last of nine children.

On June 7, 1958, she was married to Harold L. Lakey in Dayton,Washington.  Soon the couple moved to Douglas County, Missouri where they were blessed with five children.

Carol was a wonderful homemaker and was always happy to serve up homemade pie and coffee or a full meal to the many guests in their home. She loved a party, and her Easter egg hunts were legendary! She was also a ready help to Harold in all of his business adventures. In addition, she, along with Harold and the whole family, attended church faithfully. When it came to church work, she loved to help wherever she could.  For example, she was a cook at Camp JOY Bible camp for many years.  It was there where she, having thought she was a Christian since childhood, realized that she was actually lost and needed the LORD Jesus to save her.  What an unexpected and joyous day that was!

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, all of her siblings, a granddaughter's husband, and her dear husband, Harold. There has already been a reunion in the skies!

Carol is survived by her five children and their spouses: Leslie Ann and Mark Lauger, Lynne and Don Bobo, Lisa and Gary Milone, Lyndell and Mandy Lakey, and Leigh Ann and Jared Hanson.  Also surviving are twenty-seven grandchildren, thirty-four great grandchildren with four more on the way!

Celebration of Life for Carol is scheduled for Saturday, July 6, 2024, at 2:00 P.M. at Camp JOY, Rt. 5, CR 14-223 in Ava, Missouri. All are invited to attend and share memories of her. Officiating will be Reverend Paul Pritchard. The graveside will follow at 4:00 P.M. in the Ava Cemetery, Ava, MO. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Camp JOY, Rt. 5, CR, 14-223, Ava, MO 65608.
