CHARLES EUGENE LUNA

Charles Eugene Luna, 80, of Gassville, AR, formerly of Gainesville, passed away on May 12, 2017 at the Gassville Therapy & Living Center in Gassville, AR. He was born October 4, 1936 in West Plains, MO the son of Charles Judson and Dot Edith (Daniel) Luna.

Charles attended elementary and high school in Gainesville, graduating in 1954, before going to Springfield, MO where he enrolled in college at Southwest Missouri State (now Missouri State University). After a few semesters, Charles entered the military where he proudly served his country in the United States Army. He served four years, some of that time spent serving in Germany. After his discharge from the Army, Charles returned to the family farm north of Gainesville to help his father. He spent the majority of life farming. Back in high school, Charles was in the band, where he played the trumpet. He put that talent to good use throughout his life playing taps at many military funerals. He also spent many years as Fire Chief of the Bryant Fire Department. He was also a huge St Louis Cardinal baseball fan. He was very involved in the summer baseball program in Gainesville during its early years. Charles attended First Christain Church in Gainesville for many years.

He is survived by his uncle William Wood of Marshfield, MO and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Judson and Dot Luna.

A Graveside Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 15, 2017 in the Sims Cemetery with Full Military Honors . Jimmy Kyle will officiate. The family asks for memorial contributions to be made to Sims Cemetery. Arrangements are by Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Gainesville, MO.
