A graveside service for Charles Oliver Luna, 78, of Pontiac, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, 2020, at the Gainesville Cemetery, with a celebration of life gathering to be held afterward at the family's home in Pontiac. Mr. Luna died peacefully on Feb. 4 at home in Pontiac with his loving wife, Lisa, by his side.
He was born Oct. 1, 1941, in Detroit, Michigan, the son of John Henry and Erma Lee Luna. He graduated from Gainesville High School and then attended the University of Missouri-Rolla but went to work full-time before completing his degree.
He worked as a registered land surveyor in Rolla and Kansas City, and he founded and was part-owner of Midwest Surveyors in Branson. After that, he became an entrepreneur and was involved in several business ventures throughout multiple industries, including trucking, petroleum, Branson entertainment, land development and boat manufacturing. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and over the years he loved to travel, play poker, spend time on Bull Shoals Lake and play his music loud.
On Feb. 12, 2005, he married Lisa Batchelor, and they lived in Pontiac for the entire time they were together.
He was a lifelong Kansas City Chiefs fan and was happy to watch them win the Super Bowl just two days before he died.
Surviving is his wife, Lisa, of Pontiac; one son, Nick Luna of Springfield; two step-daughters, Brittany Kohler of Gainesville and Carrie Rawlings of Santee, California; one brother, Larry Luna and wife Laurie of Highlandville; one sister, Johnna Luna Morgan and husband Tim of Pontiac; nieces and nephews Megan Luna Werner and husband Patrick, Jabet Morgan Wade and husband Matt, Caldwell Morgan and wife Kate, Blake Luna and wife Natalie; several great-nieces and nephews, step-grandchildren and other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Erma Lee Luna.
