Charles Odum, Jr., 83 years, 4 months, and 24 days old, passed to heaven on January 21, 2012 at Missouri Veteran's Home, St. James, MO.

Charles was born August 28, 1928 in Carrier Mills, Illinois, to Charles and Gladys (Stout) Odum. He was united in marriage to Deloris Broy in 1947. She preceded him in death in 1981.



Charles was a veteran of the Army Air Corps and served in Japan from 1946-1949. He worked in the underground coal mines in Southern Illinois. In 1979 he retired with 20 years at Allsteel Equipment Company, Aurora, Illinois as a painter-finisher. Charles was ordained a Southern Baptist Minister, retiring in 1996. He was a graduate of the University of Illinois, Carbondale with a degree in Psychology. Charles was a member of the Charles Haddon Spurgeon Society of the William Jewell College,and a member of the First Southern Baptist Church of Ava.

On December 17, 1982 Charles and Linda (Thacher, St.Clair) were united in marriage in Hannibal, Missouri.



Survivors include his wife Linda, of the home, one daughter, Debra Lowry, and husband Emil, Ralston, NE., one step-daughter, Carla Jacobs and husband Steffan, Omaha,AR., two granddaughters, Becki Lowry and Kristen Pikop and her husband Trevor, three step-grandchildren, Lucas and Hannah Metcalf and Riley Jacobs, Two great-grandchildren, Leah and Logan Pikop, brothers-in-law, Roy Thacher, and Larry Thacher, mother-in-law, Leatha Jane Thacher, nephews, nieces, and many friends.

Charles was preceded by His parents, one step-son, Emmett St. Clair, one brother, Lester Odum and one sister-in-law, Ann Odum.



Funeral services for Charles will be Tuesday, January 24th at 11:00 a.m. at First Southern Baptist Church, Ava, MO. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 24th from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church. Officiating will be Brother Tom Maples . Burial will be Wednesday, January 25th, at the Carrier Mills Cemetery, Carrier Mills, Illinois. Memorials may be made to Gideons or First Southern Baptist Church
