CHARLES THOMAS SUMNER

Charles Thomas "Tom" Sumner, 84, of Pontiac, MO passed away on February 23, 2014 at the Heart of the Ozarks Healthcare Center in Ava, MO. He was born on March 26, 1929 in Venice, IL the son of Charles Curtis and Zelma Leona (Smith) Sumner.

Tom grew up in St. Louis, MO. He was a veteran who proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. After his military service Tom returned to St. Louis where he worked for Alton Paper Box Co. In 1965 he moved to California and began working for Norris Industries as a Machinist. He was united in marriage to Julie Caampued on February 16, 1968 in Las Vegas, NV. He continued working for Norris Industries until his retirement in 1991. At that time, Tom and Julie moved to Gainesville, MO. In 1993 the couple moved to Pontiac, MO and made their home closer to Bull Shoals Lake. Tom was a Master diver for many years and was a part of the "Bubble Masters", a search & rescue dive team. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Curtis and Zelma Leona Sumner; one son Timothy Charles Sumner; and three siblings Leona Zurbriggen, Elizabeth Enoch and David Sumner. He is survived by his wife Julie Sumner of the home in Pontiac, MO; his children Brenda Sumner and Jeffrey Carl Sumner; four grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; 9 great-great grandchildren; one brother William Sumner and wife Mary Lee of Doniphan, MO; three sisters Nadine Reahr and husband Bob of Tecumseh, MO, Analie Newman of Gainesville, MO, Janice Barciszewski of Gainesville, MO; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral services for Tom will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, February 27, 2014 in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home chapel in Gainesville, MO with Jeff Corder officiating and Patriot Guard Riders present. Visitation will be on Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Price Place Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
