Obituary

CHARLES LEE WHISNANT

Charles Lee Whisnant, 76, of Gainesville, MO passed away September 11, 2020 at Gainesville Health Care Center with family by his side.  He was born in Gainesville, MO, in a log cabin on August 18, 1944 to Everett and Flora (Cockrum) Whisnant.

On September 29, 1962 he was united in marriage to Patsy Norton.  To this union four children were born:  Tim, Darren, Marty, and Jeff.  Charles spent most of his life driving a truck or turning wrenches with an occasional outburst of duct tape.  Finally, Charles retired on September 14, 2007 from MLH & Sons where he enjoyed working with people who made his job enjoyable.  He always said it was the best job he ever had!

Charles was a loving family man who lived for his wife, children, grandchildren and great grand-children.  He loved to poke fun and play jokes.  If you ask his family, they will tell you that he could fix anything with a roll of duct tape or a 2 x 4.  Although he was a man of immense humor, he instilled great morals in his family.  It was well-known that his and Pat's door was always open to anyone.  If you walked through that door, you were family.  Charles was, also, a man of faith and a member of The Fountain Church.  In his later years, Charles looked forward to attending church.  Charles was greatly loved and will be missed by many.

Charles is survived by his loving wife, Patsy; 3 sons: Darren and wife Dawn, Marty and wife Joni, Jeff and wife Karen; grandchildren: Tiffany, Dustin, Monica, Thomas, Samantha, Chelsi, Haley, Eric, Chase, Shelby, Sadie, Timmy, Jon and Tori; great-grandchildren: Collin, Jaidan, Mason, Bentley, Adyn, Jayley, Carson, Marvin, Tobias, Serenity, Skyla, Katrina and soon to be baby Shane; 3 brother-in-laws: Burl and wife Dawn Marie, Rick and wife Jill, Danny and wife Rebecca; 2 sister-in-laws: Sue Skaggs and Linda Whisnant; 2 special friends: Tim Reiners and George Szabo, who were always available to sit with him or take him places after he could no longer drive; and a host of friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his son, Tim; parents Everett and Flora (Cockrum) Whisnant; In-laws: Marvin and Lillian Norton; 5 brothers: Everett Jr., Cecil, Cleo, Leo and James; 1 sister: Elva; 1 granddaughter: Christina; and 1 great-granddaughter: Rhythm Lea.

The family will host a memorial service at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 3, 2020 at The Fountain Church, Theodosia, MO.  Burial of cremains will be in the Patrick Cemetery. Arrangements are being conducted by Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Gainesville, MO.
