CONNIE L. OGLE BURDEN

Connie L. Ogle Burden, 58, of Martinsville, IN died unexpectedly on Saturday, August 15, 2009 at 5:55 PM at her residence.

Connie was born on July 27, 1951 in Mountain Home, Arkansas. She is the daughter of Arthur Louis Ogle and Mary Alice (Crawford) Ogle.

She was a 1969 graduate of Mountain Home High School in Arkansas and received her bachelor's degree in education from the University of Central Arkansas and her master's degree from Webster's College in St. Louis.

On June 14, 2008 she married Dennis Sam Burden.

She began her teaching career in Missouri teaching the 5th and 6th grades at Lone Star Intermediate School. She moved to Martinsville during the 1980's and taught one year at South Elementary School before joining the staff at West Middle School, where she was currently teaching 8th grade English.

During her teaching career at West Middle School she was active in numerous school and administrative activities. She was a member of the National Teacher's Association, a READ & FEED facilitator, a New Teacher's Mentor, and a 3 year "American History Grant" participant. She was also an active WMS Incentive Committee member, organizing and chaperoning various field trips. Many will recall seeing her as the 'ticket lady' at the sporting events and a school dance chaperone. Additionally, she was the official announcer of the annual spelling bee for many years and was awarded the WMS "Teacher's Best Halloween Costume".

In addition to volunteering her time and supporting school activities, she also enjoyed crafts, flower gardening, reading and had a great love for animals.

She leaves behind a host of dear friends and her immediate family. Her husband, Dennis S. Burden of Martinsville; mother, Mary Alice Ogle of Springfield, MO; sister, Pat Canfield of Baton Rouge, LA; niece and nephew, Brittany and Blake Canfield both of Baton Rouge, LA; 4 step-daughters, Gina and Michelle Burden and Vanessa D'amico all of Indianapolis and Katrina Hall of Shelbyville; and 3 step grandchildren, Nick Turner, Emilio Burden and Isabelle Hall.

Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Thursday, August 20th from 3-5:00 PM at Neal & Summers Funeral and Cremation Center, Martinsville, IN. Dr. Mark Poindexter will officiate a celebration of life service immediately following at 5:00 PM at the funeral home. Pastor Richard Akins will conduct a graveside service on Saturday, August 22nd at 11:00 AM in Mammoth Cemetery in Gainesville, MO. Graveside services are under the direction of Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Gainesville, MO.
