CUMIE FERN COWIN

Cumie Fern (Cutbirth) Cowin of Theodosia, Missouri, age 92 was born in Ocie, Missouri on April 11, 1916 and passed away February 19, 2009. She was the daughter of Alfred and Hettie (Harless) Cutbirth. She was one of 9 siblings. At the age of 10, she became a member of the Salem General Baptist Church.

Cumie was united in marriage to Henry Thomas Cowin on March 7, 1940. They had three children, Evadene, Dennis and Weldon. Cumie remained a homemaker thru her entire life.

She greatly enjoyed gardening, quilting and visiting with friends. Cumie has spent the past several years living with her daughter Evadene and her husband William Vance in Cassville, Missouri.

She is preceded in death by her husband Henry, her two sons Dennis and Weldon, and three brothers and four sisters.

She is survived by her daughter Evadene and her husband William Vance of Cassville, Missouri, one brother, Gene Cutbirth and his wife Erlene of Spokane, Missouri, a daughter-in-law Judy (Cowin) Evans of Gainesville, Missouri. Six grandchildren Larry and his wife Aimee Vance of Hendersonville, Tennessee, Lisa and her husband Kim McClintock of Purdy, Missouri, Brigitta and her husband Doug Hess of Cassville, Missouri, Monica and her husband Troy Bethards of Bolivar, Missouri, Onnica and her husband Steve Hutchings of Gainesville, Missouri and Hervil and his wife Tracy Cowin of Rogersville, Missouri; ten great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by sister-in-law Sophronia Tabor, sister-in-law Vera Cowin, many nieces and nephews, church family and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM on Monday, February 23, 2009 at the Salem General Baptist Church near Theodosia, MO with Don Yarger and Ann Saegesser officiating.
Interment will be in the Rhodes Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 1:00 PM to service time at the church. Memorials can be made to Rhodes Cemetery.
