Curby Elbert Welch, 85 years, passed to heaven on October 25, 2012, at Cox Medical Center South, Springfield, MO after a long illness.
Curby was born May 26, 1927, in Hammond, MO to Bennie and Francis (Boyles) Welch.
Curby lived most of his life in the Ava community. He grew up in Ozark County. He was a retired Carpenter and Farmer. On July 7, 1945, Curby and Donnie Wells were united in marriage in Mtn. Home, AR and to this union two daughters were born.
Curby was an Army Veteran and served during WWII. He was a lifetime member of the Ava American Legion #112. Curby delighted in serving the Legion by setting VA markers along with Troy Herd and Bill Huffman and also setting out the American Flags.
He was a Christian. In earlier years he and Donnie enjoyed attending revivals and singings all around the area. Curby enjoyed working and building many homes in the Ava area. He also loved being in the outdoors doing any kind of farm work. His joy was his wife Donnie and visiting with all his family and friends.
Curby was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Carrel and Curtis and son-in-law, Gerald Walker.
Curby is survived by his wife, Donnie of the home, two daughters, Sandra Walker and Katrina Matney & husband, John all of Ava, MO, three grandchildren, Heather Walker, Derby, KS, Faunlee (Scott) Smith, Ava, MO and Dustin Matney, Springfield, MO, two step grandchildren, Shaun (Susan) Matney and Heather Lane, all of Springfield, MO, three great grandsons, Alden, Morgan and Parker Smith, three step great grandchildren, Aiden, Addison and Peyton Lane, two brothers, Conley (Mona) Welch, Ava, MO and Cecil (Billie) Welch, Salem, AR, sisters-in-law, Gladys Long, Camdenton, MO and Barbara Welch, Andover, KS, several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Curby will be Tuesday, October 30, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, MO with burial in the Ava Cemetery with full Military Honors by Ava American Legion #112. Visitation will be Monday from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Officiating will be Pastor Randy Dalton and Pastor Robert Roberts. Memorials may be made to Ava American Legion #112 or Ava Senior Center.
