David William Dickens

David William Dickens, 81 years, 6 months, and 26 days old, passed to his Heavenly home on November 28, 2015 at his home.
David was born May 2, 1934 in Willard, MO to Carl and Willie May (Murry) Dickens. He graduated from Strafford High School in 1953.
David was a veteran and a retired Navy Chief Petty Officer and served for 20 years in the military. He also served in the Vietnam War. During his military career he traveled all over the world in a submarine. After retiring from the Navy, David was an Electrician for Amstar for 20 years in Charleston, South Carolina.
On January 21, 1955 David and Patsy Jo Hall were united in marriage in Ava, MO and to this union three children were born.
He was a Christian and a member of the Skyline Full Gospel Church.
David's hobbies were woodworking, reading, gardening, shrimping and was a master electrician. Patsy was the love of his life and he missed her dearly.
David loved being with his family. He is now with his Lord and Savior!
David was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Patsy Jo in 2012, one sister Jean Miller and one brother, Harold Dickens.
David is survived by his three children and their spouses, Debbie & Ken Wise, Wichita, KS, Douglas & Debbie Dickens, Fountain Inn, South Carolina, and Diana & Larry Elam, Moncks Corner, South Carolina, six grandchildren; William Brian Wise, Johnathan Wise, Thomas Wise, Craig Elam, April Elam and Robert Douglas Dickens, six great grandchildren; Abigail, Andrew, Taylor, Kaleb, Kamden and Kane, one brother, Leonard Dickens, Lebanon, MO, many brothers and sisters-in-laws in Ava and a host of other relatives and friends.
A Celebration of David's life is Saturday, Dec. 5, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, MO with burial in the Dyer Cemetery with full military honors by Troy Herd American Legion Post 112 and U.S. Navy. Visitation will be Friday, Dec. 4th from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home. Officiating will be Pastor Bobby Page. Memorials may be made to Ava VFW Post #5993 or Ava Senior Center.
