Delma Marie Swain, 93 years, 5 months, and 13 days old, passed away on July 14, 2012 at Heart of the Ozarks Healthcare, Ava, MO.
Delma was born February 1, 1919 in Ash Hill, MO to Zelma and Lola (Diamond) Guess.
Delma was united in marriage to Walter William Swain on Nov. 9, 1935 in Broseley, MO near Poplar Bluff. He preceded her in death on August 10, 1974.
Delma was the oldest of four brothers and four sisters. She worked in a factory in St. Louis, MO from 1942 to 1946 while her husband served in the U.S. Army during WWII. They moved to Ava, MO in 1951. She lived alone after her husband's death until she fell and broke her hip.
Delma loved going to church and was a member of the Union Grove Church and attended there up until it closed. She then attended the Mt. Tabor Church. She enjoyed quilting, embroidering, gardening and canning.
Delma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Walter in 1974, four brothers, Delbert, Allen, Leroy & Zelma Jr. Guess, four sisters, Inez Baker, Aileen Dunn, Georgia Schnadelbach & Jean Wheeler, and a granddaughter, Michelle Horton.
Delma is survived by two sons and two daughters, Jerry & Rose Swain, Ava, MO, Gary Lee Swain, Grandview, MO, Sherry & Gary Johnson, Ava, MO and Mary & Kenrick Leschinsky, Wasola, MO, five granddaughters, one grandson, two great grandsons, three great granddaughters, one great great grandson, two great great granddaughters, a host of nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Delma will be Sat., July 21, 2012, 11:00 a.m. at Clinkingbeard Chapel, Ava, MO with burial at a later date and time in Union Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be Sat. 9:30 a.m. to service time in the funeral home. Officiating will be Rev. Mahlon Schmucker. Memorials may be made to Alzheimers Association.
