Richard H. Hanna, Jr., 71 years of age, passed to heaven on May 31, 2013, at his home with his wife and relatives by his side. Everyone knew Richard as "Dick".
Dick was born July 22, 1941 in Oil City, Pa., to Richard H. Hanna, Sr., and Dorothea J. Peters.
When Dick was 17 years old he joined the Marine Corp. and spent 6 1/2 years, after which he returned to Japan and joined the Merchant Marine.
On September 2, 1970, Richard (Dick) and Yae were married in Tokyo, Japan. For 22 years they operated a very successful Member Club Restaurant and Pub in Yokosuka. In 1982 they moved to Saegertown, Pa., and again opened another successful business (Cambridge Beer Distributor) until they moved to Missouri in 1991. At that time Ava's Mini-Mart was opened and eventually relocated to its present location which includes the Radio Shack and Dish Network.
Dick was a member of the Ava Turkey Club and a life time member of the VFW, he was also the youngest District Commander for VFW Post # 1054 in Japan.
Dick was fortunate to have visited many foreign countries and in recent years cruises.
Dick's lifelong passion was hunting, and in November hosted many family and friends at his home called "Dick and Yae's Hunting Lodge".
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother and several aunts and uncles.
Dick is survived by his wife, Yae Hanna, Drury, Mo., step-father, Perry Martin, Mars Hill, N.C., sister and husband, Barbara and Dick Hess, Grants Pass, Oregon; half-brothers Kevin Martin, Mars Hill, North Carolina; Thomas and wife Julie Hanna, Erie, Pa.; cousin and wife, Lloyd and Sherrol Hanna, Tampa, Florida, and many other family members.
A memorial service will be held for Dick Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. in the Clinkingbeard Chapel, Ava, MO., with Military Honors by Ava American Legion Post # 112, VFW Post #5993 and Marines. Cremation services conducted by Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, MO. Memorials may be made to Neighbor Helping Neighbor.
