Don Ousley

Springfield, Missouri (formerly of Drury, MO)

Donnie Dell Ousley, 88 years, 9 months, 6 days old, passed away peacefully at his home with his family by his side on November 12, 2016.

Don was born February 6, 1928 in Buckhart, MO to Homer and Melissey Mae (Lawson) Ousley.

On June 10, 1948 Don and Mary Lou Spurlock were united in marriage in Davenport, IA and to this union five children were born.

Don was a retired Crew Leader with the Missouri Dept. of Transportation at the Drury shed. He had worked there for 25 years. He also loved being a farmer and enjoyed many years working with cattle and training and showing Quarter horses for cutting.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran and served in WWII.



Don was a Christian and attended the Gentryville Church of God. He was a member of the Ava Masonic Lodge # 26, AF & AM and orginally a member of the Pilot Knob Masonic Lodge #182 AF & AM in Dora, MO. Other memberships he held was with the Order of the Eastern Star, Mansfield Chapter, #76.


Don had a craftsman talent in making muzzle loading rifles with the curly maple wood that he cured from his farm. Don loved to tell stories about Douglas County history.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, a son Donnie, a grandson, Larry Ousley II, a great granddaughter, Chloe Martinez, a great grandson, Jake Wheeler, and nine siblings.

Don is survived by his wife, Mary Lou of the home in Springfield, MO, four children and their spouses, Larry & "Wellie" Ousley, Springfield, MO, Kathy & Larry Rigger, Springfield, MO, Bentley & Lisa Ousley, Kansas City, MO, and Lisa & Gary Croney, Dora, MO, 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, three siblings, Anita Cruce, Claremore, OK, Bea Brown, Pryor, OK, and Jack Ousley, Moline, IL, many nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.


Funeral services for Don will be Saturday, Nov. 19, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. in the Clinkingbeard Chapel, Ava, MO with Masonic rites. Visitation will be Saturday, Nov. 19th at 1:00 P.M. to service time in the funeral home. Burial will be in the Pleasant Home Cemetery, Drury, MO with military honors by the Troy Herd American Legion Post #112. Officiating will be Pastor Dwayne Sparks. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Assoc.
