Doris Evelyn Looney Clark, 97, of Columbia, MO formerly of Gainesville MO, died December 9, 2008 at Lenoir Woods Health Care Center after a lingering illness. She was a retired elementary school teacher who initially served in the one-room schools of Ozark County before moving to the Gainesville Consolidated Schools for the last 14 years of her career.
Mrs. Clark was born August 15, 1911, at Gainesville MO to Clyde Looney and Cora Luna Looney. She married W. W. (Wolf) Clark on June 12, 1931, at Mountain Home, AR, and he preceded her in death in 1987.
Mrs Clark was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Columbia. Prior to relocating in Columbia to be near her son and his family, she was a very active member of the First Christian Church in Gainesville, MO.
She is survived by a son, Larry D. Clark and his wife, Yvonne, of Columbia; one grandson, Marcus W. Murray and his wife Rhonda of Mesa AZ; three great grandchildren—Jessica Murray of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Joseph and Julia Murray of Chicago IL; a sister, Earlene Crisp of Gainesville, MO and a brother, Marvin Looney of Pontiac, MO and a host of nieces and nephews. Five brothers (Ira, Harley, Bennie, Bonnie and Jim) and two sisters (Gertie Hickey and Tessie Adams) preceded her in death.
Interment will be at Lilly Ridge Cemetery where a graveside service will be held on Friday, December 12, 2008 at 1:30 PM. Family will receive friends on Friday, Noon – 1:00PM at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Gainesville. A memorial service commemorating her long and productive life will be held at Epple Chapel, Lenoir Woods, at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospices of America or to the First Christian Church in either Columbia or Gainesville. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Gainesville.
