Dorsey B. Huffman, 81
Dorsey Benjamin Huffman, 81 years, 3 months and 10 days old, passed away January 15, 2011, at the Veterans Hospital, Fayetteville, Arkansas, following a long courageous battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis.
Dorsey was born October 5, 1929, in Ava, MO, to Benjamin and Mary Ellen (Williamson) Huffman.
Dorsey was a lifelong resident of Douglas County. He grew up working on the family farm and he was a mechanic and truck driver most of his life. He was an owner-operator and leased semi-trucks to Sentinel Wood, Ava, MO for many years. Dorsey also owned and operated Dorsey's Self Storage.
Dorsey attended school at Gentry through the eighth grade and was an Ava High School graduate.
Dorsey served his country as a Sergeant in the United Stated Marine Corps. He was a combat veteran of the Korean War where he served as an infantry unit leader.
On February 7, 1958, Dorsey and Doyne Wilson were united in marriage at Ava, MO.
Dorsey was an avid motorcycle enthusiast, purchasing his first Indian motorcycle when he was 17 years old. He continued to ride primarily Indian or Harley Davidson motorcycles throughout his life.
Dorsey was a Life member of the American Legion, Post 112 and Life Member the Veterans of Foreign of
Wars, Post 5993, where he was an active member for several years, including service as both American
Legion and VFW Post Commander.
Dorsey was baptized and a member of the Ava Church of Christ, where he served as a deacon for several years.
Dorsey was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Doyne Huffman, Ava, MO; son Scott W. Huffman and wife, Gail; and three grandchildren, Benjamin, Mariah and Jarrett; two brothers, Bill and wife Wanda Huffman and Kelly Huffman both of Ava; and one sister-in-law, Ruth Burdue of Ava.
Please join the family in a celebration of Dorsey's life on Saturday, January 22, 2011 at 2:00 pm at the Ava Church of Christ. Private graveside services to be held at a later date at the Denney Cemetery. Services are being conducted by Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, MO. In lieu of flowers, donations maybe made to the Denney Cemetery or charity of choice.
