Edith "Pauline" Chance the daughter of Herman and Lois (Dunn) Whitaker was born on September 18, 1926 at Brown Branch, MO. She departed this life February 19, 2008 at Cox Hospital, surrounded by her loving family, at the age of 8l years, 5 months and 1 day.
Pauline and Doyne Chance were united in marriage on September 20, 1944 at Mtn. Home, AR. They were married 43 years and together they operated a cattle farm in the Arno Community, until their move to Ava in 1979.
Pauline attended Ava High School and was a member of the Arno General Baptist Church, and later attended Ava General Baptist Church.
Pauline loved her years growing up in the Brown Branch, MO community. She loved sitting with her cousin Bill Whitaker each Sunday afternoon recalling their childhood and family memories. She also loved her daily phone conversations with special friends, Lena Pierce and Larry and Judy Adams. The, Saturday visits by the Downs families was also one of her great enjoyments. Pauline's pride and joy was her family and her little dog and special companion, Sassy. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a accomplished painter and left many paintings for her family to treasure. She was a wonderful cook and could make the very best cream pies. Pauline was an avid reader and the historian of our family.
Pauline was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Doyne, an infant, great-grand-daughter, Hannah Leigh Chance. Her survivors include her son, Larry Chance and wife Debbie, Ava, MO, two grandchildren Darin and Elizabeth Chance Grain Valley, MO, Dustin and April Chance, great grand-son Randy and great-grand-daughter Natalie due in April , all of Independence, MO, who will miss their loving Grammy. Pauline had an extended family of caregivers, Deanna and Bobbie.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, February 23, 2008, in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, MO with Rev. Oren Alcorn, Rev. Robert Roberts and Rev. Mike Freeman officiating. Burial will follow in the Arno Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday 1:00 P.M. until service time. The family suggests remembrances to the Arno Cemetery Fund.
