Elizabeth Shaffer Watson of Ava, MO, passed away April 21, 2010. Visitation for friends and family will be at the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, MO from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., Friday, April 23. Graveside service will be conducted at the Little Bethel Memorial Park in Duncanville, TX, at 11:00 a.m. on Sat., April 24.
Arrangements there are under the direction of David Clayton Funeral Homes.
Elizabeth was born Sept. 11, 1939, in Tyler, TX, to Raymond and Lottie Shaffer, both of whom preceded her in death. She was one of three children and is survived by her sister Rebecca Shaffer Williams. She is also survived by her husband, Dean Watson whom she has known for almost 50 years and their two sons, Rick Watson, Scott Watson and Scott's daughter, Elizabeth's granddaughter, Kristen Watson, three step sons, Travis Watson, Nathan Watson and Ben Watson and grandson Eli. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and many friends in Missouri and Texas.
Elizabeth spent her youth in Tyler, Texas before attending East Texas State University in Commerce, TX. After graduation, she married Dean Watson and moved to the Dallas area. There, she became a career educator, teaching English, Spanish and other subjects to high school students for more than 40 years. Most recently, Elizabeth resided in Ava, MO where she was an instructor at Drury University. Elizabeth was a member of the United Methodist Church.
Elizabeth most enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was an avid world traveler but also enjoyed living the last five years on a large farm. Elizabeth was known for her sharp wit, her positive spirit, and her interest in others. She will be missed by her family and everyone who knew her.
