ELMER LEE MILLER
Elmer Lee Miller, 70, of Tecumseh, MO passed to heaven on February 2, 2012 at the Hospice of the Ozarks Hospice House, Mountain Home, AR. He was born on March 7, 1941 in Gainesville, MO at the home of his parents, Walter and Rosie (Dean) Miller.
Elmer was a 1960 graduate of Gainesville High School. He was a veteran, having proudly served his country in the United States Navy, where he excelled as an Aviation Mechanic. Elmer would later joke that he knew more about the Navy's aircraft than the pilots did. He was assigned to the USS Independence.
After his Honorable Discharge, Elmer returned to Gainesville. He was united in marriage to Darlene Pinkley on November 22, 1967 in Ironton, MO. He began his career as an Iron worker. He worked in many various locations, both close to home and on the East Coast. While out East, working with fiber optic cable, he even had the distinct privilege of working inside the compound of Camp David. Elmer returned to his home in Gainesville to raise his family. After the death of his first wife, Elmer was united in marriage to Erma Evans on October 31, 2004 in Gainesville, MO. He was loved and respected by all of his family and friends. He was a member of the Robert Burns Masonic Lodge #496. Elmer was a Christian and a member of the Lilly Ridge General Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Rosie Miller; his first wife Darlene; one brother John Henry Miller; and one sister Leona Piland. He is survived by his wife, Erma, of the home in Tecumseh, MO; his sons Jarrett Miller and wife Michelle of Gainesville, MO, Mike Miller and wife Glenna of Nixa, MO, Mike Evans and wife Retha of Caulfield, MO, John Evans and wife Ada of West Plains, MO, Sam Evans and wife Sherri of the Philippines, and David Evans and wife Lisa of Tecumseh, MO; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; his siblings Eddie Miller and wife Avis of Gainesville, MO, Donnie Miller and wife Beverly of Tecumseh, MO, Rosalie King and husband John of California, Kathy Howard and husband Conley of Mountain Home, AR, Josie Woodward and husband Eddie of Gainesville, MO, Jimmie Miller and wife Donna of Ft Worth, TX, and David Miller and wife Brenda of Gainesville, MO; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral services for Elmer will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 4, 2012 at the Lilly Ridge General Baptist Church with Dale Roberts officiating. Burial will be in the Sallee Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday evening, February 3, 2012 from 5-7 p.m. at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Gainesville, MO. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or to Shriner's Children Hospital, and can be left at the funeral home.
