Elva M. Yelton, 99 years, passed to heaven on March 5, 2010 at Marshfield Care Center, Marshfield, MO after a short illness, having recently enjoyed celebrating her ninety-ninth birthday with her family.
Elva was born February 7, 1911 in Gentry, AR to Lee and Sarah Josephine (Bunting) Garrett.
On Nov. 15, 1935 Elva and Victor Yelton were united in marriage in Bentonville, AR and to this union two daughters were born.
As a child, Elva, her parents, two brothers and three sisters lived and worked out of a covered wagon, traveling and picking cotton. She married and moved to Kansas. Elva was an amazingly independent woman, who enjoyed gardening and playing piano at the Norwood Christian Church for many years. She went back to school after her children were grown and became a nurse. She took up bow and gun deer hunting in her sixties and retired with her husband to Ava in 1979. Elva and Victor were married for 53 years until his passing in 1989.
Elva was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Victor, five siblings, Lloyd and Almer Garrett, Ethel Robbins, Elsie Yeoman and Eva Huddleston.
Elva is survived by two daughters, Naomi Morgan and husband Vernon, Kansas City, MO and Reba Luther and husband John, Ava, MO, four grandchildren, Cheryl Morgan Kurth, Eric Morgan, Andrea Luther Gulley and Kendal Luther, nine great grandchildren, ten great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Elva will be Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, MO with burial in the Spring Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 9, 2010 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home and also will be Wednesday, 1:00 p.m. to service time. Officiating will be Pastor David Moore.
