Ethel Corene Hicks, 93 years, 7 months, 22 days old, passed away on July 26, 2026, at Cedarhurst Senior Living in Springfield, Missouri.
Corene was born December 4, 1932, in Almartha, Missouri, to Vernie and Argie (Henley) Sievert.
Corene had two older brothers, Clifford and Carl Sievert. Corene was the oldest of seven daughters. At the age of 13, Corene accepted Jesus as her Savior and was baptized. She graduated from Ava High School.
Troy Lee Hicks and Corene were married on August 27, 1955, at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Wasola, Missouri. Two children came from this marriage, Lana and Troy, Jr.
Troy took a job teaching Math at the University of Missouri at Rolla. They lived there most of their life. They called First Baptist Church their home. For 18 years they lived at Nixa, Missouri, and enjoyed wintering in Naples, Florida. Corene was a wife, mother, sister, aunt, homemaker, gardener, loved fishing, was a great cook, and loved making quilts.
Corene was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Clifford Sievert, Carl Sievert, Judy Looney, and Jessie High.
Corene is survived by her husband, Troy; children and their spouses, Lana (Ken) Day and Troy Lee (Kathy) Hicks, Jr.; grandchildren, Wesley (Alice) Day and Rachel (Jonathan) Brown; great-grandchildren, Lexi, Sydney, Caedmon, Kelsy Day, and Ava Brown; siblings, Maxine Graves, June Huff, Vivian Haynes, and Lola Mayberry; many nieces, nephews, extended family and numerous friends.
Funeral services for Corene will be Friday, July 31, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. in the Clinkingbeard Chapel Ava, Missouri. Visitation will be prior to the service from 1:00-2:00 P.M. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Wasola, Missouri. Officiating will be Pastor James Hathcock. Memorials may be made to the Oak Grove Cemetery.
