Frances Mae Coonts

Frances Mae Coonts, 89 years, passed to heaven on May 17, 2010 at North Kansas City Hospital, North Kansas City, MO.

Frances was born October 22, 1920 in Sweden, MO to William and Mary (Simmons) Shelton.

Frances was a resident of Ava for many years moving from the Kansas City, MO area where she retired from working at Cotter & Co. Hardware warehouse as a Clerk. She also helped manage the Evans store east of Ava for years and also was their Postmistress for the Evans community.

On Dec. 11, 1940 Frances and Willard W. Coonts were united in marriage in Ozark, MO and to this union six children were born. Frances was a Christian and attended the Evans Church. She enjoyed playing Bingo, gatherings and her greatest joy was being with her family.


Frances was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Willard W., one son, W.D. Coonts, one infant daughter, Sheila, a grandson, Sean Dobbs, two brothers, Buster and Robert Shelton, four sisters, Esther, Joyce, Bessie and Helen.


Frances is survived by four daughters, Lena Mary Gerdts, Kansas City, MO, Pat Dobbs & husband, Don, Ava, MO, Beverly Sue Jones & husband, Ray and Judy Shepard all of Kansas City, MO, 16 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, two sisters, Ruby Hopper, Norwood, MO and Norva Martin, Puyallup, WA, many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.


Funeral services for Frances will be Thursday, May 20, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, MO with burial in the Evans Cemetery east of Ava. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 19, 2010 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home. Officiating will be Rev. Dale Garrison. Memorials may be made to Evans Cemetery.
