FRED WALTER GERDES

Fred Walter Gerdes, 94, of Wasola, MO passed away on March 2, 2014 at the Gainesville Healthcare Center. He was born on December 28, 1919 in Lone Tree, MN, the son of George and Elizabeth (Reiners) Gerdes.

Fred was a Veteran who proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II as an Aviation Metalsmith. He was stationed in North Africa. Fred was united in marriage to Helen Ruth Larson in 1958 in Maynard, MN. She preceded him in death in June of 2012. Fred enjoyed target shooting and reloading. He also loved gardening, reading books and being outdoors.

He is survived locally by one granddaughter Faith Winrod and husband Nathaniel of Tecumseh, MO. Other survivors include his three children, Audrey Marczak, Brenda Gerdes and Byron Gerdes; nine more grandchildren; twenty-three great grandchildren; three sisters and two brothers.

He was preceded in death by his parents George and Elizabeth Gerdes; his wife Helen Ruth Gerdes; and one brother Walter Gerdes.

Funeral services for Fred will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 7, 2014 in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home chapel in Gainesville, MO with David Kapler officiating and Full Military Honors. Burial will be in the Noble Cemetery. On line condolences may be made to www.clinkingbeardfuneralhome.com
