Gaytha Mae (Lakey) Watterson went to her Heavenly home peacefully on January 18, 2016. She was 74 years, 11 months, and 1 day old. She passed away in her home with her Jim and family by her side.
Gaytha was the daughter of the late Everett and Alta (Burdan) Lakey. She was born February 17, 1941 in Sweden, MO.
Gaytha was a life long resident of the Ava community. She grew up in the Sweden area and married her long time sweetheart, James Donald Watterson on April 2, 1960 and to this union four children were born. They raised their family on their farm where they milked dairy cattle and built a wonderful life.
Gaytha was a devout born again Christian. She was baptized in Vera Cruz creek by brother Mike Worrell with her granddaughter, Brooke. She was a longtime member of Highway Church of the Nazarene and was a faithful servant to the Lord.
Gaytha was preceded in death by her parents, her step-father, Gordon Shanks, her children, Lance Watterson, Faira Watterson Spindle and Angela Kay Watterson, and her father and mother-in-law, Ray & Reta Watterson.
Gaytha is survived by her husband, Jim Watterson, Ava, MO, one son, Justin Watterson, Ava, MO, grandchildren; Brooke Watterson Elwood and husband, Shawn, Tyler Watterson and wife, Levie, Trevor Watterson, and MaKenzie Watterson, great grandsons; Jayce, Casten and Brax Elwood and Thomas Watterson, two brothers and their wives; J.T. & Lorie Lakey, Boyd Lakey, three sisters and their husbands; Lula & Don Dyer, Norma & Leetroy Cornelison, and Regina & Jim Evans, many nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives she loved dearly.
Funeral services for Gaytha will be Friday, January 22, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the Highway Church of the Nazarene, Ava, MO with burial in the Ava Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 1:00 p.m. to service time in the church. Officiating will be Pastor Mark Hatcher. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association, 1630 W. Elfindale St., Springfield, MO 65807. Services are being conducted by Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, MO.
