Funeral services for Genelle Pierce, 90, of Battlefield, will be held at 2 pm on Friday, July 22, 2011 @ Clinkingbeard Funeral Home in Gainesville with Halbert Smith officiating. Visitation will be on Friday from 1 pm to service time. Burial will be in the Patrick Cemetery.
Genelle died on July 16 in Gainesville. She was born on May 4, 1921 in Gainesville to Hervil and Arcie Carter.
On November 21, 1935 she married Averille Pierce in Gainesville. They made their home on their farm down AA Hwy in Gainesville where they raised their three children, Gene, Fred and Patsy. Genelle drove a school bus for several years while caring for her children and helping Averille on the farm. After she raised her children she relocated to Springfield and attended Burge School of Nursing, graduating with a LPN license. She worked for more than 20 years at Fremont Manor Nursing Home, caring for her residents just as if they were family. After retirement she enjoyed time with her many grandchildren and always made sure that they never left her house without a hug, a care package and a sweet wave from the front porch.
She loved spending time at horse shows, fishing and gardening. She enjoyed sharing her love of gardening and cooking with family and friends. Time spent with her children and grandchildren was very special to her. "Granny" will be missed by all those that loved and cherished her.
She is survived by her children, Gene Pierce and wife, Imogene, of Lebanon; Fred Pierce and wife, Rosie, of Rogersville; one sister, Veta Combs, of Riverside, California; seven grandchildren; Roger, Randy, Tammy, Karla, Kris, Rick and Brandy; fifteen great grandchildren; Sally, Molly, Paxton, Shelby, Hannah, Brandon, Brady, Ashley, Emily, Sarah, Anna, Gregory and Brian; four great great grandchildren, Macy, Madison, Emily and Noah.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Averille Pierce; parents, Hervel and Arcie Carter; daughter, Patsy Pierce; grandson, Chivas Pace; and five brothers and four sisters.
Memorial contributions can be made to Patrick Cemetery or Ozark County Relay for Life/American Cancer Society.
