Obituary

Geneva Helen Daniel the daughter of Arthur Morris and Alpha C. (Lawson) Morris was born Feb. 22, 1922 in Thornfield, MO and departed this life Oct 15, 2009 at the age of 87 years 7 months and 23 days.

In 1938 she was married to Calvin Smith in Ozark County, MO. To this union three children were born. The first child, a son was stillborn.

Geneva was an active member of the Battlefield Baptist Church which she attended regularly. She also belonged to the Eastern Star Crescent Chapter #21, Springfield, MO. Geneva loved music and participated in many singing concerts with her family in the area. She also danced with a square dance group. She and her brother Elbert won many square dance awards.

Geneva was a moderator of Local 316 Café and Hotel Workers Union and belonged to the United Garment Workers of America and worked as a mediator with National Labor Relations Board. She worked with the Unions and Oberman Company as well. Later in life she was self-employed, directing weddings and anniversaries before her retirement. In addition, she was Neighborhood Mother and was elected to the Greene County Advisory Board of the Ozarks Area Community Action Corporation for the 95-97 term however; the appointment was declined because of health concerns.

Geneva was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Kenneth, Elbert, Kelly and Orville, two sisters, Ella Watson and Francis Lafferty, a son-in-law, Kenneth Williams. She is survived by a son, Dewey C. Smith and wife, Tela and a daughter, Wilda Jean Williams, nine grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, as well as many friends who will surely miss her.

Services will be Monday, Oct. 19, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. in the First Baptist Church, Battlefield, MO, with Pastor Ray Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Rivermonte Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday 9 to 11:00 A.M in the Church. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Battlefield, MO.
