GEORGE WASHINGTON MCMILLEN

George W. McMillen, 93, of Theodosia, MO, passed away on Memorial Day, May 30, 2011 in Branson, MO. He was born on February 22, 1918 and raised in Oblong, IL. George was the youngest of five children born to Adrian A. and Virginia (Sears) McMillen.

George was a veteran, having proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II where, among other medals, he received a Purple Heart. After the war, George returned to Illinois and on September 29, 1956 he was united in marriage to Antoinette Gatto. The couple made their home in Romeoville, IL and raised three daughters there. George worked as a pipe fitter and machinist for USI Clearing.

After his retirement, George and Antoinette moved to Theodosia, MO in 1985. He loved the Ozark Mountains and the Bull Shoals Lake area. After his wife's death in 1990, he remained in Theodosia where he loved hunting, fishing and the outdoors. George was a master wood crafter. He would not just simply make something out of wood, he would go out, pick out the tree, cut it down, take all the measurements, then create a beautiful piece of furniture, a picture frame, an entertainment center or anything else he wanted to build. He was a great and very talented man who also loved to play jokes on people. Where ever George was, there was laughter. He was a very loving husband, father, grandfather and friend who will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

George was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Antoinette; and four siblings. He is survived by his three daughters, Linda Clancy and husband Brian of Romeoville, IL, Carol Fields and husband Terry of Gilbertsville, KY and Georgette Reynolds and husband Robert of Theodosia, MO; seven grandchildren Adrienne Clancy, Brian Clancy Jr., Joseph Terrance Cottone Jr., Danielle Cottone, Angelique Cottone, Anthony George Cottone and Angel Reynolds; and one great grandchild Damion Cottone.

A local visitation will be held from 5-7pm on Wednesday, June 1, 2011 in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home chapel, Gainesville, MO. A wake is planned for Friday, June 3, 2011 from 3-9 pm and funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 4, 2011 at Anderson Memorial Chapel, Romeoville, IL. Burial will be in the Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Cook County, Hillside, IL.
