Gilbert Basil Lakey, 83 years, 2 months, and 4 days old, passed away on December 20, 2010 at Heart of the Ozarks Healthcare, Ava, MO.
Basil was born October 16, 1927 in Cold Springs, MO to Guy and Lola (Hutchison) Lakey.
Basil was a retired truck driver and resident of the Ava community most of his life. He was a Christian and made a profession of faith. He married Hazel Harris and to this union two children were born. Basil was a veteran and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
Basil was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Harold & Narvel Lakey and two sisters, Louise Porter and Marian Smith.
Basil is survived by his two children, Deborah Raymond, Dublin, CA and David Lakey, Manteca, CA, two granddaughters, Katelyn and Bethany, three brothers, Darrell Lakey, Elwood Lakey and Marvin Lakey all of Ava, MO and one sister, Sue Porter, Ava, MO, many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Gilbert will be Tuesday, December 28, 2010, 10:00 a.m. at the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, MO, at with burial in the Ava Cemetery with full military honors by Ava American Legion #112 and VFW #5993. Visitation will be Tuesday the 28th from 9:00 a.m. to service time in the funeral home. Officiating will be Rev. Reggie Kelly. Memorials may be made to Gideons.
