Gladys Lorene Long, 92, passed away on March 24, 2017 in Camdenton, MO. Gladys was born August 13, 1924 in Dugginsville, MO in Ozark County, the daughter of Ireland and Edna (Due) Wells.
Gladys began her teaching career in one room school houses at the age of 17. She taught in Ava and Dora for many years as an elementary school teacher. She had received her B.S. Degree in Education from Missouri State University in Springfield, MO and received her Masters in Education from Drury University also in Springfield. Gladys and Joe Bill Long were united in marriage March 17, 1949 at Mtn. Home, AR and to this union one daughter was born, Frances Joetta.
Gladys was a member of the Ava First General Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Retired Teachers Assoc. in both Douglas and Camden Counties, She was also a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority. Gladys was actively involved in her grandchldren's lives and took great pride in their accomplishments. She enjoyed reading, gardening, animals, baking, and being outdoors. Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Mary Smith and Donnie Welch, brother, Marion "Dink" Wells, and husband Joe Bill. Gladys is survived by her daughter Frances Joetta and husband, Mark House, Camdenton, MO. Her three grandchildren are Tyrus House, and wife Sallie, Fayetteville, NC; Kelsey House, Springfield, MO; and Andrew House, Austin, TX. She had one great granddaughter, Blair House, of Fayetteville, NC; as well as nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Gladys will be Monday, April 3, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in the Clinkingbeard Chapel, Ava, MO with burial following in the Lutie Cemetery, Theodosia, MO. Visitation will be Sunday, April 2nd from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Officiating will be Pastor Robert Roberts.
