Guy H. Gettys

Guy Henry Gettys, 83 years, departed this life on November 4, 2009 at Cox Medical Center South, Springfield, MO.

Guy was born February 21, 1926 in Douglas County, MO near Basher to Irvin and Agnes (Schott) Gettys.

On October 4, 1952, Guy was united in marriage to Doris Anderson Gettys in Flushing, New York. She preceded him in death. Guy was an Army Veteran and served his country in WWII. He worked for TWA Airlines for over 30 years as a Flight Dispatcher and happily retired and moved to Ava, MO. In Ava, Guy was an active member of the Ava Highway Church of the Nazarene and the Douglas County Historical Society. While living in Springfield, Guy attended the Marie Day Ministries. Guy and Doris were quite a team and loved working in the church and the community together.

Guy was preceded in death by his wife, Doris, his parents and 11 brothers and sisters.

Guy is survived by his three children and their spouses, Dale Blodgett & Jim, Walnut Creek, CA, Susan Harvey & Sidney, Smithtown, NY and Guy H. Gettys, Jr. & Jill, Flemington, NJ, 11 grandchildren and other relatives and friends.

Graveside services for Guy will be Monday, November 9, 2009, 2:00 p.m., at the Ava Cemetery, Ava, MO with full military honors by Ava American Legion #112 and VFW #5993. Visitation will be Monday, November 9, 2009 from 1:00 p.m. to service time in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home. Officiating will be Rev. John Moles. Memorials may be made in lieu of flowers to Gideons International, Douglas County Historical Society or the American Cancer Society.
