Harley A. Dye, 87 years, 3 months, and 19 days old, passed to heaven on January 23, 2011 at his home.

Harley was born October 4, 1923 in Sweden, MO to John and Florence (Simmons) Dye.

Harley was a lifelong resident of the Ava community. He was owner and operator of his own appliance repair business in Ava. He had also worked for 25 years with the Marvin Barnes Co. in Ava.

On May 15, 1949 Harley and Eula Mae Heriford were united in marriage in Douglas County, MO and to this union three children were born.

Harley was a member of the Ava Highway Church of the Nazarene. He was a WWII Veteran and served with the U.S. Army and had been awarded Five Bronze Stars. He served in the Ardennes, Central Europe, Rhineland, Normandy and Northern France Campaigns. He was a member of the Ava VFW #5993.

Harley had a servants heart. He would go anytime to anywhere to help. He was happiest when he had his kids, grandkids and great grandkids at his home. Harley loved reading his Bible and had read all through several times.

Harley was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Henry, Tommy, Garland and Clifford Dye and three sisters, Malissa Welton, Fila Thurman and Eula Peterson.

Harley is survived by his wife, Eula Mae Dye, Ava, MO, three children and their spouses, Dr. Rick & Vicki Dye, Paducah, KY, Rev. David & JoAnn Dye, Ava, MO and Malissa & Raymond Layland, Choctaw, OK, six grandchildren, Jennifer Pate, Eric Dye, Chris Layland, Randall Dye, Marc Layland and Erin Dye, four great grandchildren, Madison Layland, Garrett Dye, Charles Thomas Pate and Harley Layland, one sister, Beulah Heatherly, Ozark, MO, several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.


Funeral services for Harley will be Wednesday, January 26, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, MO with burial in the Sweden Cemetery with full military honors by Ava American Legion #112 and VFW #5993. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 25, 2011 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home. Officiating will be Pastor Mark Hatcher and Rev. John Moles.
