HAROLD "BUS" MAHIN
1926-2009
Harold "Bus" Francis Mahin, son of Benton and Ivy Mahin, was born February 5, 1926, in Champaign County, Illinois. He departed this life Thursday, December 17, 2009 at his home in Theodosia, Missouri at the age of eighty-three years, ten months, and twelve days.
On September 18, 1948, in Illinois, he was united in marriage to Wanda Paul, and to this union one daughter was born.
He was born and raised in Mahomet, Illinois and graduated from Mahomet High School. He then served his country faithfully in the United States Army during World War II where he received a Purple Heart. After being honorably discharged from the Army in 1945, he returned home to Mahomet, Illinois. "Bus" retired from the United States Postal Service as a rural mail carrier in Mahomet, Illinois. Bus and Wanda moved to Theodosia, Missouri in 1976 where they made their home. They purchased and ran Big Creek Resort and later owned and ran Paradise Donuts Shop and H&R Block office in Gainesville, Missouri.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and DAV. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and his garden along with being with his family. He enjoyed his friends company very much as he never new a stranger. The stories he loved to tell always amazed everyone.
"Bus" was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and uncle. He was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and his accomplishments and will treasure the memories he created for all family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Benton and Iva (Granny) Mahin; 2 sisters, Beulah Alvis and Mary Rayburn; and 1 brother, Delbert Mahin.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Wanda, of Theodosia, Missouri; one daughter Sharon Horn and her husband Mike of Theodosia, Missouri; 3 granddaughters: Kelli Flahaut and her husband Mike of Thomasboro, Illinois; Heidi Wilson and her husband Dale of Springfield, Missouri; Tina Anderson and her husband Tim of Mansfield, Missouri; and 8 great grandchildren: Dakota, Michael Slade, Shianne, Tristan, Corbin, Morgan, Zachary, and Logan; and 1 brother Virgil Mahin of Mahomet, Illinois.
Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Gainesville, MO will be holding the visitation on December 20, 2009 from 2-4p.m. His final resting place will be at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Champaign, IL with graveside services on December 22, 2009 at 11:00 AM with Paster Van Williams officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the United Methodist Church, Theodosia, MO 65761.
