Hazel Gaddis

Hazel Gaddis, daughter of Robert B. West and Mary Elizabeth Weathered West was born on August 8, 1915 in Collin County, Texas and went home to be with her Lord with loving family at her side on Feb. 15, 2007 in Ava, MO at the age of 91 years, 6 months and 7 days.

Hazel was a resident of the Ava community for five years, moving from Pueblo, CO. She was a retired head cook at the Dr. Dan C Trigg Memorial Hospital in Tucumcari, NM. On Dec. 15, 1938, Hazel and Hubert Ray Gaddis were united in marriage in Clayton, NM, at the home of her preacher. To this union six children were born. Hazel was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Ava. She enjoyed quilting and watching any kind of sports on TV. When young, she loved to play baseball with her brothers and especially "burnout." As she had written in a family booklet, "her special times were having her children. The best times of her life were trying to teach them right from wrong and seeing them give her grand and great grandchildren." Hazel loved her Church and Sunday School Class and her special pastor, Tom Maples, and his family. In her last few years, Hazel enjoyed living in the Ozarks where she loved watching the birds and other wildlife from her window.

Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Hubert Ray, one son, Freddie, a granddaughter, Tracy, a son-in-law James Bogle, five brothers, five sisters and two infant siblings.

Her survivors include five children, Freda Tyler & husband, Lew, Ava, MO, Anita Bogle, Colorado Springs, CO, Lynette Stueve, Sacramento.
