Herman J. Frye, the son of Herman B. Frye and Etta Leona Whitaker, was born on February 19, 1922 in Ava, MO and past away on July 21, 2009 at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy, IL at the age of 87 years, 5 months and 2 days.

"Shug" served his country during WW II with the U.S. Army. He enjoyed fishing, golf, checkers and also spending time with his family. He was a member of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Moline, IL and a former member of the Ava United Methodist Church in Ava, MO. Shug would move from Ava, MO to Milan, IL and after retiring from International Harvester in Moline, IL, moved back to Squires, MO until leaving to live at the home of his daughter in Hampton, IL.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a former wife Dorothy Lucille Hicks, his wife Ethel Frye, three sisters Donna Jean Frye, Maxine Frye and Faye Sherman and two brothers Dwayne and Jack Frye.

Shug is survived by his daughter Cheryl McLaughlin and her husband Mike of Hampton, IL, two sisters Luna White of Springfield, MO, Martha Lee Marshall of Boliver, MO, his brother Jim E. Frye of Squires, MO, a Grand Daughter Tera Elliott of Hampton, IL, Great-Grand Daughters Courtney Elliott, Audrey Elliott and Chelsey and Alexa Ellis, a Great-Great-Grand Daughter California Elliott, a Step-Daughter Sherian Robinson of Dewitt, AR and Step-Grand Children Sheba Snyder, Porter Gill, Sheria Gill of Dewitt, AR, Frank Dobbins of East Moline, IL, Sam Dobbins of Colorado and Brent Rouse of Rock Island, IL.

Services for Herman J. "Shug" Frye will be 10:00 A.M. , July 24, 2009 at the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home in Ava, MO with the Rev. Dr. Wilfred Karsten officiating and internment at the Fannon Cemetery, Ava, MO. There will be a visitation on Thursday, July 23 from 7-8pm at the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home. The family request that memorials be made to the Fannon Cemetery.
