Hollie May Corum

Ava, MO

Hollie May Corum, 79 years, went home to heaven on September 9, 2009 at Cox Medical Center South, Springfield, MO.

Hollie was born October 31, 1929 in Sturgis, SD to Charles Addison and Wealtha May (Simons) Sylvis.


On August 14, 1949, Hollie and Joseph Arthur Corum were united in marriage in Sturgis, South Dakota and to this union five children were born.

Hollie was a member of the Ava Church of Christ. She was totally devoted in attending church up until she physically could no longer attend. She enjoyed all of her family and the neighborhood kids. Hollie was a Sunday School teacher for decades and helped with the World Bible School Ministry. She was also actively involved in the clothing giveaway program at the Ava Church of Christ. She was an activist for the Special Olympics and in helping the mentally handicapped.

Hollie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Joseph Arthur, a granddaughter, Christina Corum, one great grandson, Bradley Potter and one brother, Henry Stahline.


Hollie is survived by five children and their spouses, Charles Arthur & Marilyn Corum, Joseph Alan & Vickie Corum, all of Ava, MO, Judith Lorine & Ray Christy, Sandra Kay McCourt all of Kansas City, MO and Shirley Jean & Jason Herrell, Ava, MO, six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, one brother and wife, Richard S. & Mary Sylvis, Riverview, FL, two sisters, Louise Kranz, Riverton, Wy, Kathy & Melvin Nechwavol, Lancaster, WI and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Hollie will be Monday, September 14, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. in the Ava Church of Christ with burial in the Ava Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, September 13, 2009 from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, MO. Officiating will be Dan Wade. Memorials may be made to Fairhaven Childrens Home, Strafford, MO.
