Imagene (Cutbirth) Hughes was born in Protem, MO on March 11, 1934 and passed away at Gainesville Healthcare Center the night of February 4, 2026, at 91 years old.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 11, 2026 at Salem General Baptist Church near Ocie, MO. The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. also at Salem Church. Pastor Russel Matthews will officiate. Burial services will be at Rhoades Cemetery following the funeral service.
Imagene’s life focused on benefiting others. She was a member of Eastern Star for over 60 years, she was an elementary school teacher for 30 years, and a Sunday school teacher at Salem General Baptist Church most of her adult life.
Generations of area children benefited from her knowledge, caring and kindness as a schoolteacher. Imagene’s caring, kindness and compassion live on through the lives of all she mentored and taught. The world is a kinder place because of Imagene’s selfless commitment to others.
Imagene is survived by her husband, Dene Hughes of Theodosia, MO; one brother, Dale Cutbirth of Theodosia, MO; two sons: Keith Hughes of Tucson, AZ and Kent Hughes of Davenport, IA; four grandchildren: Francesca, Dana, Kara and Eli; one great granddaughter, Harper; four nieces: Shawnee, Alicia, Dalene and Jolene; and two nephews: Mike and Jim.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elbert and Daisy (Cole) Cutbirth; two sisters: Alice Lord and Norine Kirkland; and two brothers: A.J. Cutbirth and Reese Cutbirth.
God bless all who knew and loved her, may we all meet on Heaven’s shore one day. Donations in Imagene’s memory may be made to Gideons, Eastern Star or Rhoades Cemetery.
