Ivan Buchanan passed away March 6th 2015 in Mercy Hospital, Springfield, MO at the age of 84 with his family by his side.
He was born October 22, 1930 to Claude & Claudia (Miller) Buchanan in Ava, MO.
Ivan attended Ava High School. He joined the U.S. Marine Corp. in February 1951 and served 8 years as a Corporal in the 1st Marine Division. During that time, he served 9 months as a rifleman in Korea.
On February 20, 1954, Ivan and Dessie Burton were united in marriage at Mt. Tabor, and to this union one daughter was born.
Ivan worked for local businesses in the Ava area including MFA and Union Gas as a truck driver.
He enjoyed farming, raising beef cattle, and driving his John Deere tractors. He loved being outdoors spending time hunting and fishing. Ivan loved his family dearly and was always there for them. He was a very special Dad and Pa. He will be greatly missed.
He was proceeded in death by his parents and two infant brothers.
Ivan is survived by his wife, Dessie, of 61 years; one daughter, Bobbie Strong and husband Glen of Ava; three granddaughters, Missy Long and Rob Hudson of Sparta, Kara Pruiett and husband Shane of Seymour, Ashley Watson and husband Justin of Ava; four great-grandchildren, Payton Long, Hannah Hudson, Kaedon and Kinley Pruiett and a special cat, Tommy.
Funeral services for Ivan will be Tuesday, March 10th 2015 at 10am in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Chapel, Ava, MO with burial in the Denney Cemetery with full military honors by Troy Herd American Legion Post 112. Officiating will be Pastor Mark Hatcher. Memorial contributions may be made to Denney Cemetery.
