Jean Rex David Sr.

Jean Rex David was born September 29, 1924 in Taneyville, Missouri and passed away in the early morning of June 4th, 2013 in Gainesville Missouri. He was 88 years old.

He was born to Gertrude Sullenger and James Luther David. He spent most of his childhood with his grandparents David and Mina Sullenger. He left home at about 14 and struck out on his own. He worked many different jobs including a farmhand, piano mover, machine operator, and many more.

In November of 1952 he married Josephine Ruth Phariss. To this union four sons were born. He was baptized December 18, 1977 at the First General Baptist Church by Reverend Joe Gaddy. Later in life he retired to Redbud village of Ava and eventually to Gainesville, Missouri.

He was a great man, father, and grandfather who loved his family dearly and could always be relied on in times of need. He knew everything there was to know about running a farm, caring for dogs, cattle, horses, game chickens, and much more. He was always a source of good advice. He was a fantastic guitar picker who loved rebuilding old guitars and creating his own tunes. He enjoyed the outdoors and loved spending time with his family and friends.

Jean Rex David is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, wife, and one brother, Roger Sims. He is survived by his sons Jean Rex Jr. and wife Debbie, James Paul and wife Gloria, Rickie Lee and wife Brenda, Billy Joe; his brothers Charles Sims Jr., Milford Sims, Bill Sims, Gary Sims and wife Mary, his sister-in-law Martha Sims, Donny Dean David, sister Kathleen David, 13 grandchildren, his many great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, and his good friend Naomi Stephens.

Visitation will be 1:00 to 2:00 pm on Saturday, June 8, 2013 at the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, MO, with services at 2:00 pm. Pastor Charles McFarland will be officiating. Burial services will be at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Wasola, MO. Memorials may be made to Oak Grove Cemetery.
