Jerry Lee Huffman

Ava, Missouri

Jerry Lee Huffman, 83 years, 4 months, and 19 days old, passed peacefully on January 8, 2025, at Cox South Hospital in Springfield, Missouri, with his family by his side.

Jerry was born August 19, 1941, in Ava, Missouri, to Harley Etcyl and Doris Marie (Jordan) Huffman.

On December 24, 1960, Jerry and Audrey Jenkins were united in marriage in Ava, Missouri, and together were blessed with two daughters, Teresa and Sherry.

He was Chief of Police with the Ava Police Department for 32 years. Jerry also served on the Ava low income housing board for several years. In addition, he served as President for the Ava Senior Center. Jerry believed in serving his community.

Jerry enjoyed watching and coaching his grandson's ballgames, and he loved to play cards at the Senior Center with his friends. He enjoyed bluegrass and country music, and he found joy in visiting with all his friends and neighbors, especially having coffee at Signal. Jerry became a Christian as a child at the First Baptist Church in Ava and was also baptized there. In his later years, he attended the Faith Rock Church with Audrey.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Betty Marshall, Lola Peters, and Ruth Swearengin.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Audrey; his daughters, Teresa & husband, John Gloyd, and Sherry Wallace; four grandchildren, Jordan Gloyd, Andrew Huffman, Albany Wallace, and Addison Wallace; one great grandson, Sawyer Huffman; his sister, Shirley Davis; nieces; nephews; extended family and many friends.

Funeral services for Jerry will be Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at 2:00 P.M. in the Clinkingbeard Chapel, Ava, Missouri, with burial following in the Ava Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to the service on Tuesday at 1:30 P.M.

Officiating will be Pastor Jessie Davidson. Family requests memorials to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Wounded Warriors.
