James George "J.G." Heinlein, 88 years, passed to heaven on December 11, 2012 at Heart of the Ozarks Healthcare Facility.
J.G. was born May 9, 1924 in Kansas City, MO to Ivan and Hattie (Ellison) Heinlein. J.G. spent his early years farming in the Tigris community with his father until his fathers passing in 1956. He worked in the aircraft industry for a time then opened and operated Ava Oil Co. for about 30 years. J.G worked for the Douglas County Chamber of Commerce for about two years after retiring from Ava Oil Co. and later was elected Presiding Commissioner of Douglas County, MO, 1991-1994.
J.G. has been a member of the Odd Fellow Lodge, Masonic Lodge, Douglas County Chamber of Commerce and Ava Industrial Development Corporation and had served on the Ava City Council, Douglas County Health Board, and the Douglas County Library Board.
He was a Christian and a member of the Ava General Baptist Church in Ava .
James and Hazel Lorene Horner were united in marriage July 3, 1956 in Springfield, MO. In 1970 J.G. and Lorene adopted two sons, Joe, age 6 and Mike, age 5.
James was preceded by his parents, his wife, Lorene in 2006 and son, Joe in 1981.
James is survived by son, Mike Heinlein, Springfield, MO, a granddaughter, Jessica Nicole Layman, Fort Drum, NY, two great granddaughters, foster daughter, Pam (Armstrong) Sublette, Fort Collins, CO, and many relatives and friends.
There will be open viewing for J.G. from 12:00 till 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 13, 2012 at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava. A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. in the Clinkingbeard Chapel, Ava.
